“What to look for in
a church.”
Looking for a good church can be as
tedious as shopping for a new
vehicle. There are a wide variety
of sizes and worship styles in our
community and finding the church
that meets all of your expectations
can be difficult. Perhaps the
following biblical guidelines should
be included in your criteria for
your ‘good’ church.
The pastor’s message should
originate from the Bible.
(2 Tim. 4:2)
He should declare all the counsel of
God from the Bible in his teaching
and preaching. (Acts 20:27)
Salvation is a free gift of God’s
grace through faith in Jesus Christ
without works.
(Eph. 2:8-9)
The Scriptures are the church’s
final authority in faith, worship,
practice and policy.
(2 Tim 3:16-17)
The church is obedient to the Great
Commission at home and abroad.
(Mark 16:15)
Its people, by the power of the Holy
Spirit should endeavor to walk
together in Christian love. (Eph.
4:3)
Certainly more could be said about
what to look for in a church such as
ministry needs and your spiritual
gift and abilities. But these
fundamental guidelines should be
helpful as you make your visits
throughout the community. Pray and
ask God to give you spiritual wisdom
and understanding as you search for
a place to worship and serve him
each time you participate in a
worship service.
Not forsaking the
assembling of ourselves together, as
the manner of some is; but exhorting
one another: and so much the more,
as ye see the day
approaching. (Heb
10:25)
